Food Coop / Re: Trip to Oregon Co. Food / Artisans Coop
« on: May 23, 2014, 07:13:08 PM »
We have a coop market exchange which includes a food and artisan coop with a soup kitchen committee formed

Current members of the committee are:
Jon Kruger, Jule Kruger, Ute Timme, Chuck Blanchard and Jan Chester

All are welcome to join the committee
We have not met as a committee

In the near future I would love to meet.
In the past, other O.N.E. committees have met at the Village Cafe in Isabella.

If we want the Coop Market Exchange Committee could meet there

A drawback is Village Cafe closes at 3:30 PM However, they have WiFi if we wanted to use the internet.

Also, in Theodosia there is the Treasure Gallery. The Hungry Bear Soup and Sandwich Shop is located within. They are open until at least 5 pm. However, they do not have internet available.

I am willing to set up a meeting. Please post if you are interested in joining the committee and comments on meeting time and place

Food Coop / Trip to Oregon Co. Food / Artisans Coop
« on: May 23, 2014, 07:07:44 PM »
Hi All, Jon and Chuck here reporting on the trip to Alton. Four of went over to Alton, Judy and Jule and us drove over last Thursday. We had a wonderful meal at the Coop of a white veggie soup with a beautiful pureed beet and green swirled topping with just out of the oven whole wheat bread. IIt was a pay what you can meal. The lunch is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Given a tour by Rachael, the founder of the coop, of the facilities. They have a storefront on the square in Alton. The front of the store offers a diverse variety of items mainly from the coop members. Artwork, crafts, food items, garden seed and much more. The coop does a 70/30 split on the sales. 30% going to the coop. The back of the store is where there certified kitchen is located. There is a side room where meals are served. We spent a fair bit of time chatting with Rachael and her husband Mike. She explained how they operate. There is a monthly membership fee of $10, which they are quite flexible on how members pay the dues. They have appx. 75 members with additional community participation. All of the income the coop makes is used to pay there overhead and expenses and whatever is left the members vote on how to give it back to the community. We very much got that they are about creating community. Jon invited Rachael to speak at our upcoming congress, so you all will have a chance to meet her and talk with her. Also, if there is interest we could make another trip over there. Rachael and Mike shared a lot of info with us, so if you want to know more about the trip let us know. Chuck and Jon

The last day of the workshop is Friday, June 6. Members of O.N.E. and other locals are welcome to attend all day (9 am to 5 pm) for free.

It will be a potluck. Please bring a dish to pass.

There will be a demonstration of some of the gasifiers made during the week and also a chance to purchase one of the gasifiers through an auction.

June 6 is also the date of our monthly O.N.E. meeting. We also voted on having a potluck before that meeting., I would like feedback regarding that.

Thanks for all those who came out to the meeting and also those who couldn't make it but are interested. We had a great turnout of somewhere between 30-40 people even though there were several scheduling conflicts this weekend. I was glad to see some familiar faces and some new faces. We've set our next meeting for Thursday, May 15 at 6 p.m. We hope to be able to move into the senior center across the road for the May meeting, because we think the group has outgrown the health department basement now. I'll let you know if we get permission to do that. Otherwise the meeting will be at the health dept. basement again.

We're also planning a trip to the Oregon County Food Producers and Artisan Co-op in Alton this coming Thursday, April 24. We are meeting in the back parking lot of Town and Country Supermarket and will carpool over with everyone chipping in a little for gas. If you're interested in riding along, get in touch with me. Rachel Luster will be working, and we're trying to give her a good headcount so she'll have enough soup and homemade bread for us in the pay-as-you-can soup kitchen. On a side note, I just have to say I love what both of our groups are all doing for our community. There are so many passionate and interested people, it's been amazing to see. Keep up the good work ONE!

O.N.E. Organization / Re: Old Business - Name Change
« on: May 22, 2014, 11:40:03 AM »
I would like that the acronym O.N.E. is kept

Here are ten possible O.N.E. names:

Ozark Neighbor Exchange

Ozark Neighbors Exchange

Ozark Neighbors' Exchange

Ozark Neighborly Exchange

Ozark Neighborhood Exchange

Ozarks Neighbor Exchange

Ozarks Neighbors Exchange

Ozarks Neighbors' Exchange

Ozarks Neighborly Exchange

Ozarks Neighborhood Exchange

My preference is Ozark Neighbors Exchange.
When you say it it sounds like it has the possessive s' in it too

Ozark Neighborly Exchange. Neighborly is an adverb modifyng exchange which makes it a verb or action. I think Exchange should represent both an action (verb) and a place or thing (noun)

The s' makes neighbors a possessive and correct me if I am wrong a noun and therefore not as inclusive as just neighbors. Neighbors Exchange can mean an action and a place or thing

This is Jule,

Thanks to all who attended the last ONE meeting. I was honored by your presence. Thanks to Ute, who will be our next facilitator, 5/2/14.

Our name, Ozark Neighbor Exchange, is currently being discussed and several variations on O.N.E. have been suggested. Please, if you care about this, bring your ideas to our next meeting. We hope to resolve this then.

Several folks brought items to give away at our last meeting...all items found new homes. I like this idea, so feel free to participate.

If there are any issues, or new agenda items we can discuss here on BigTent, before the next meeting, I think that would be great. It might save time at our meetings if we express ourselves here online.

I plan to share a logo idea I came up with. If any others are thinking along these lines, feel free to participate.

That's it for now,
Jule
